"The helpful and determined team at Studiotech delivered the technical design fabrication and installation of this striking canopy to our exactingly high standards"Tom Brennan
Having been approached by architect, Benoy, to assist in a feasibility exercise on lighting to the proposed wand tips on what was then a concept for a feature faceted canopy, Studiotech developed a bespoke LED lighting system mounted within the wands.
As the project developed through the design stage, Studiotech worked closely with Benoy and developed a full LED lighting solution including both internal and external luminaires to help deliver the architects' vision.
However, because of the complexity of the design the cost of fabrication, almost double the budget, became prohibitive and the future of the whole project began to look doubtful.
Studiotech offered to complete a cost engineering exercise and through the use of known and trusted fabricators in steel, aluminium and glass, were able to offer a full design and delivery package that came in under the budget figure and was feasible within the project program.
Studiotech design engineered, fabricated and managed the delivery of this contemporary and striking 100m long illuminated structure and all its lighting
Whilst the fabrication on the canopy was underway the client requested that a second canopy be produced for another phase of the development and although this second canopy was to share the aesthetic of the first, the engineering was very different.
Studiotech worked with architects Harris Partnership, to develop a design that adopted many of the principles used in the first canopy but were then engineered to match the requirements of the second.
Because this canopy was to be procured and installed in tandem with the first Studiotech needed to pull together a second fabrication and delivery team with skill levels matching those employed on the first canopy.
Both canopies were fabricated offsite and then installed in a Meccano like assembly on site.
Both canopies were designed, fabricated and delivered within program and within the agreed budget.
